Questions we hear from Georgia buyers
What makes a dog "dangerous" in Georgia?
Per the 2021 text of Code section 4-8-21: breaking skin without serious injury, an aggressive attack that creates reasonable fear of serious injury, or killing a pet off the owner's property. "Vicious" involves serious injury. Check current law.
How long do I have to contest a classification?
The statute gives the owner seven days from the notice date to request a hearing (section 4-8-23, 2021 text).
Who sets the rabies schedule?
County boards of health, under section 31-19-5. Your county's rules decide.
Can I bring my dog on a hike at a state park?
Usually yes, on a leash no longer than six feet. Not on Tallulah Gorge's Gorge Floor Trail or Panola Mountain's ranger-led Mountain Top hikes, and not in buildings, beaches or swim areas.
Can I leave the dog in my car for a minute?
The park system says never leave a dog unattended in a vehicle, and UGA vets say cars heat far beyond the outside air. Do not do it.
Is humidity really a problem?
UGA's veterinary college says dogs cool by evaporation from the tongue, so humid air makes that less effective.
Will my insurer cover a German Shepherd?
It depends on the insurer. NerdWallet reports some exclude certain breeds, German Shepherds among them. Ask in writing.
Does K9PN sell the dog?
No. K9PN is a referral service and neither breeds, sells nor trains dogs.
Is there a guarantee?
This site makes none. Any guarantee should come from the professional, in writing.
